My Homestay at Vatukacevaceva Village

First of all we want to thank you once more for helping us find our way to our Fijian family for what turned out to be a wonderful 10 days. This homestay turned out to be all that we expected and much much more!

We had hoped to experience the real Fijian way of life, and that is exactly what we got: we learnt how to plough the land with 2 oxes, how to plant kasava, how to milk the cows, how to chop down trees with a machete and drag them back to the village with the oxes. But we also had the honour of attending the ceremony for the appointment of the new chief,we had ample opportunity to learn more about the kava ceremonies, mama Lisi and Beqa took us to the island for a wonderful day of snorkeling and lazing about, we climbed the sacred mountain, we visited the local school, and we had the most amazing traditional Fijian farewell dinner.

All the people of Vatukacevaceva joined together to make this a unique and very real experience, and Mereseini helped us a lot, especially for getting into contact with the other families of the village. I hope all these families will get the opportunity to be host to foreign visitors in the near future. They certainly are prepared and eager!

Thank you very much for enabling us to have this unique experience. It is truly an admirable project, and I hope it will help all the villages.

We will send you some pictures for your website in the near future.

Best regards & Vinaka,
Franh & Peter.
