Fijian Families Homestay Testimonials

Viseisei Village. Written by Birgit and Johannes, Germany, July 2006
Dear Betty, We stayed five days with Lusi und Momo and the whole family, from grandma to the great grandson. We enjoyed the time with the family who treated us as special guests. Lusi showed us the village and the school, we went shopping together on the market and explored all the different fruits and vegetables we had never seen before. We also learnt how to open a coconut the Fijian way, Johannes even climbed a tree to get one! All the women in the house cooked us great meals and we tried some of the vegetables for the first time: Maniok, Cassava and Breadfruit........Read more

Dear Betty, I am so sorry I did not get round to sending you photos - but better late than never! I've attached some! We had an amazing time and if I ever go to Fiji again - which I hope I will - I will definitely stay with Lusi again - I have been writing her letters.........Read more

Dear Betty, Thank you so much for helping us to organise our recent trip to Veseisei Village. My family and I had a great time. I thought I would share with you and any other readers of the website our experience. My wife (Jacque) and I, and our three girls, Jordan (9), Tyler (7), and Joli Belle (5) had been looking forward to our Fiji trip for months. We had arranged our Holiday at Trendwest Resort, and through your help Betty, a night with Lusi and her family at the village.......Read more

Viseisei Village. Written by Chriss Roe, Adelaide, South Australia, October 2005
We arrived late Tuesday afternoon after a day trip to Robinson Crusoe Island and a taxi drive from Nadi to Viseisei Village. Lusi and her family extended a very warm welcome to us and made us feel part of the family. We sat and talked for a while then after having something to eat we gave Lusi and her family the gifts we had brought for them......Read more

Jill and I spent the day with Lusi and Susu at Viseisei village, we had a very pleasant time with them , shared lunch and went to the markets in Lautoka. By coincidence, we went to Bounty Island the next day for the rest of the holiday and there we met their son Keveli who is working there as a chef. We made friends with him over .......Read more

Nayawa Village. Written by Fraser Scott-Morrison, New Zealand, July 2005
Ben and his family were very welcoming and made us aware that they look after everything we wanted to do. Dinner followed and it was amazingly good (fish of some kind - I forget) - I don't think they would eat so well all the time, it was a very nice meal for a special occasion. All of the food we ate there was very good. .....Read more

Vatukacevaceva Village. Written by Antje Simdom, Essen, Germany, June 2005
In Fiji people are very friendly, smiling all the time. This is what I heard about this little paradise, and it´s true! Additional to this the Fijian people are very beautiful, maybe because of all the laughing. These are the thoughts running trough my head when I arrived in Nadi and bumped into Mereseini who was waiting for me at the airport together with some of their female friends. "Bula" she said with a big smile and put a great shell-necklace around my neck. .....Read more

First of all we want to thank you once more for helping us find our way to our Fijian family for what turned out to be a wonderful 10 days. This homestay turned out to be all that we expected and much much more!We had hoped to experience the real Fijian way of life, and that is exactly what we got: we learnt how to plough the land with 2 oxes, how to plant kasava, how to milk the cows, how to chop down trees with a machete and drag them back to the village with the oxes......Read more

Navolau Village. Written by Antje Simdom, Essen, Germany, June 2005
After another great lunch with Mereseini and then we joined the other villagers at the village where she was living when she was a child. The name of the village is Navolau. But this time when she came back she had a mission: In the evening there was a village meeting where she should present her business idea of bringing tourists in the villages in front of all the important men in the village. Oh my God, Mere had butterflies in her stomach, but she did so good, giving all the right answers and even I did not understand but only one word. I felt that she was acting very professional, like she had done it hundreds of times before. .....Read more

In case you were interested in getting involved in Fijian Families I thought I’d write a testimonial of my experience. I stayed in a remote mountain village near Rakiraki where goats run free and many locals travel by horse! Even though the village has no electricity or hot running water I still managed to feel comfortable and at ease thanks to the warmth and friendliness of my hosts and the entire villagers. In fact, being a visitor .....Read more
